Pop idol makes shaky start in musical
Having well-known singers and actors on theater stage is a formula for success in musicals and plays, but the trend has become so prevalent that it seems almost passe.
Still, public attention was generated when two members of the popular Korean boy band Super Junior — Kang-in and Hee-chul — decided to make their musical debut in “Xanadu,” sharing the lead role.The show — a 1960s movie turned into a Broadway musical about a muse who comes to the human world and finds true love — seemed to be a perfect match for the pop idols.
Although Super Junior fans eagerly awaited the musical, there was a lingering doubt about whether the two young stars would be able to sing and act in the theater.
Prior to the show’s opening, the two pop idols seemed determined to showcase their talent for musical acting. They even said that they would rehearse far more than required to disprove the claim that they got the roles because of their boy-band success. In last Tuesday’s performance, where Kang-in played the main character Sonny, he succeeded in drawing his fans to the theater. At first, a number of doe-eyed teenage girls could be seen gazing at their idol in admiration.
Kang-in made a strong presence on the stage with his cute appearance and trademark smile, to wild responses from his fans. But he did not seem not fully prepared for the show, which required a combination of singing, acting, and roller skating. In most parts of the show, the main characters are on roller skates, due to the show’s unusual setting.
Kang-in’s singing and acting was far from professional, falling short of the level you would expect, and he gave the impression that he was not comfortable with his performance.
Kang-in was also shaky and unstable when skating — at one point he tripped and almost wiped out, prompting chuckles from the audience.
Kang-in’s less-than-impressive performance raised questions about the musical industry’s preference for high-profile entertainers from other fields, even if their presence does help ticket sales.
Meanwhile, the “Panadu” seats — where people could watch the show right up close to the actors, who would occasionally come and play with them — were a refreshing experiment as audiences seated in the special section enjoyed interacting with actors.
“Xanadu” will run through Nov. 23 at Doosan Art Center in Yeonji-dong, northern Seoul. For further information, call (02) 745-5570.

Ah~ Poor Kangin… I’m sure he did his best.

Tayku-ah, did you know Ye Sung got hurt? It was at the Music Bank rehearsal. His foot got hung up in a wire and he feel from the stage. He was conscious and complaining that his head hurt. He was taken to the hospital. Poor Ye Sung. They continued the performance without him. T_T At the moment I’m not sure about anything… something about his hip hurts.
I really feel sorry for him. The boys sure do get hurt alot…
Hope he feels better soon.

Unnie, guess what. Although I can’t understand it fully yet, I can sing The moment and The one and In My Arms completely through. That makes four, right? Four songs I can sing completely in mandarin. But, Kiss Goodbye, is still my number one. Love Lee Hom’s voice in it. So soothing. Wish I could understand all of it.
Anyway. Did you hear? I know I’m really late on this but… SJ won!! Lack of sleep and this sickness made me forget exactly what. I’ve taken so much medicine today. And I still can’t sleep. Medicine, that is the only thing my body seems immune to. Everyone knows I get sick so easy, but for some reason medicine that is SUPPOSED to make me go to sleep, DOESN’T work for me. I’ve grown immune to them I’ve decided. You know, I’ve had all the songs on my computer on repeat for the past few days, and I’ve realized just how little I know. Like in ‘It’s Raining’ there are a few words that I just can’t figure out. and ‘LaLaLa’. Lately I’ve been listening to ‘Paradox’ alot, and when they go REALLY fast, I can’t understand them at all. Speaking of the TRAX, I miss Rose. I’m sad now. I don’t know exactly when it was, but somehow the MV for SS501’s song ‘Song Calling For You’ ended up on my computer. I don’t remember downloading it. It may have been a long time ago, and I’ve just forgotten.
It’s sad but I have a lot of music on my computer, only one of which is an English song. And it just happens to be Ryeo Wook singing ‘Honesty’ and his voice is delicious as all ways. Only one japanese song too. ‘Chiri Boshi’ by Se7en. Is it strange that I have mostly Korean music on my computer? It seems strange. Not to mention the very limited collection of Chinese songs I have. Which just so happen to be SJ-M and Lee Hom, with a few others. I think I’m a little too picky.
I don’t think this post has made any sense. 2 hours before I go to mamaw’s. I can’t wait to get my hands on her computer. The things I will watch… *Sigh* I’ve went into withdrawel symptoms. I miss watching SJ on youtube. I really REALLY hate this computer. Speaking of withdrawel, Nick and Fatty(The fat boy) were both arrested a few days back. Some stupid assualt charges for nick… so not what really happened. But anywho… Fatty was supposedly in the whole methlab thing. He was down the street though, how could he have been at the dope man’s house? Aish, Cedar Bluff police are so~ Argh.

Cute Cat still has no name. Which is cute in it’self. From what I understand from his Cyworld he has a few names in mind. Champagne? Strange name for a cat, I think. Gaegood. Mmm, let’s see. From what I can understand he wants the fans to help think of good names for Cute Cat. Ah~ I really fail at reading Hangul. Mmm, Omona? Hee Nim you can’t name Cute Cat that.
